What is an Au Pair?

Being an Au Pair is a great way to experience liviAu pair in Canadang in Canada, while earning some pocket money at the same time. An Au Pair is a young person, usually between the ages of 18 and 29, who travels abroad to live with a host family. As a participant in the  Au Pair program, you will be placed with a Canadian family, either in Toronto, or other metropolitan areas. You will help take care of your host family’s children, as well as assist with some household chores.

 

Requirements
All Au Pairs must be 18 years of age and above, have past childcare experience such as babysitting &/or tutoring, possess a mature attitude, and obtain a Working Holiday visa to Canada.
You will have the rare opportunity to experience just what it is like to live with a Canadian family.
The word “au pair” comes from the French term, meaning “on a par” or “equal to”. This means that that the relationship is intended to be one of equals: the au pair should be treated like a member of the family. As an Au Pair, you will be expected to interact with your “family” in English, so you can expect to feel more comfortable with the language over time.

Work
Au Pairs off er up to 40 hours per week of childcare assistance and housekeeping duties. In exchange, the family provides
the Au Pair with a free private bedroom, full board (3 meals/day), as well as CAD $150 per week in pocket money.
If the Au Pair is expected to work more than 40 hours/week, additional hours will be paid at a rate of $6.00 per hour.

Study
English language studies are not possible for full-time Au Pairs. Students interested in studying English while in Toronto should apply to the DEMI PAIR program (see page 3 for more information) , which combines part-time Au Pair with part-time studies.

Duration
Au Pairs are placed with Canadian families for periods of between 24 & 52 weeks.

Careful Monitoring
Au Pairs are closely monitored throughout their stay by our Program Coordinator. Prior to being accepted into the program, all host families have been carefully screened to ensure the comfort and safety of all au apairs.

Social Time
Our Au Pair program is unique in that our au pairs have lots of opportunities to participate in social activities outside of their host family. Au pairs are invited to participate in weekly trips and activities with  students from around the world. Montlhy Au Pair Group Meetings ensure that all au pairs in our program have the opportunity to meet with each other and socialize together.

What Is A Demi Pair?
Demi Pairs are part-time au pairs. Participants in the Demi Pair program have the opportunity to experience the perfect balance between work and studies. Study English for part or all of your time here in Canada. While you are studying in the mornings you will help your “family” with their childcare needs in the afternoons or evenings.
Your Canadian Host Family will introduce you to Canadian culture and treat you like a member of the family. You will get to know Toronto – a fun, exciting and safe city. You will make friends from around the world while you are studying and improving your English. Participating in the Demi Pair program guarantees you will have memories to last a lifetime!

Work
Demi Pairs off er up to 20 hours per week of childcare assistance and light housekeeping duties. In exchange, the family provides the Demi Pair with free room & full board.

Study
Demi Pair program participants can choose to study in either the Full-Time English program (20 lessons/week) or the TOEFL PLUS program (20 lessons/week). All studies take place in the mornings, giving ample time in the afternoon or evenings for the Demi Pair to assist the family with their children.

Duration
Demi Pairs are placed with Canadian families for periods of between 16 & 24 weeks and study for all of their time in Canada.

Careful Monitoring
Demi Pairs are closely monitored throughout their stay by our Demi Pair Coordinator. Prior to being accepted into the program, all host families have been carefully screened by our Coordintor to ensure our students’ comfort and safety.

Social Time
Since Demi Pairs attend English classes, they meet other English language students from around the world. They get to know their teachers and have the opportunity to participate in the school’s weekly trips and activities. This social time ensures that Demi Pairs develop friendships and a social life outside of their host family.
